Australian universities warned of losing

relevance in the era of online courses

Today, I share you about education online courses in Australia. Because the international accept this way to learn. Online learning is the good choice.

In this phase of proliferating online courses, the universities are at a risk of becoming irrelevant, unless they invest more in campus teaching. The National Union of Students (NUS) in Australia has revealed that its 2012 quality survey highlights complaints about overcrowded tutorials, increasing reliance on group work, and insufficient feedback.

The NUS report states that it had warned of overcrowding of classes, casualisation of academia was predicted to continue affecting students. Also more reliance on online resources at the expense of face-to-face teaching was predicted by the peak student organization. The Results appear to reinforce findings in the Australasian Survey of Student Engagement of substantially lower levels of engagement at Australian universities than in the US and Canada. As per the experts, universities should revisit what they are doing on the campus if they have to stay relevant in an era of MOOCs. It is warned that students will lack meaningful engagement with academics.

The online survey found that among on-campus students some 54 % reported having tutorials of typically more than 20 students while 9 % complained they did not get helpful or timely assessment feedback on any of their subjects. Only a third said they had received such feedback for all their subjects.
About 45 % of on-campus students reported instances of overcrowded lectures and tutorials where there were not enough seats. Some 15% noted that some students in their courses had to watch lectures online because of the lack of seats. About 20% of those doing courses requiring laboratory work or placements said they had major issues with the quality of facilities and the placements.
However, the survey found that overall satisfaction appeared to be high with 83.5 per cent indicating they would recommend their course to a friend.
